Rustenburg – A woman in Geelhout Park lost her car and lapa on Tuesday 29 June despite a spirited effort by helpful neighbours to contain the raging fire. Her house is located in Cornel Street adjacent to a veld, from which the fire is suspected to have originated.

When Platinum Weekly arrived on scene, firefighters from the Rustenburg Fire Department were putting out the last smoulders. Her VW Jetta which was parked under the lapa was reduced to a charred skeleton.

“Although devastated, I’m grateful that nobody got injured by the fire,” she said. “I’m extremely grateful to my neighbours who helped contain the blaze before the firefighters arrived.”

A concerned neighbour helped to fight the fire.
A veld fire adjacent the house is linked to the incident.
