Nowhere to run Robbers cornered in high-speed chase
Rustenburg – On Friday 7 May, a man was hitchhiking on the R24 when he was offered a lift by three men travelling in a white Fiat.
He soon realised he was sitting in car with robbers, frightened for his life…
Police officers from the protection services unit, doing their rounds in the Kloof vicinity, suspected a hijacking in progress after witnessing the victim being thrown out of a moving vehicle.
“The man ran to the police and told them of his ordeal. The suspects sped off,” said police spokesperson sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi in an interview with Platinum Weekly. “A high-speed chase ensued as the police pursued the suspects all the way to Kock street, where the suspects were cornered and arrested. This was after the police shot at and damaged the rear wheel of their vehicle.”
The hitchhiker was grateful for the swift reaction of the police officers. His belongings were found inside the vehicle of the suspects.
The three suspects aged 18, 20, and 22, appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday 10 May on charges of robbery.
