Brits/ Mooinooi – A 31-year-old man appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 15 September in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old boy and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday 22 September.

The suspect’s court appearance emanated from his arrest on 13 September by Makau Police. According to reports received, the victim arrived home late on Friday night, 11 September. The mother, who was not pleased about him coming late, asked him where he was coming from.

  1. to police spokesperson colonel Adele Myburgh, the boy allegedly confided in his mother – that he has been raped by the suspect several times since December 2019 and threatened to kill him if he tells anyone about the incident. The mother reported the matter to the police.

In another incident, a 34-year-old man appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on 14 September for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl in Mooinooi on 12 September.

“According to information at our disposal, the victim’s father and mother left the four-year-old with the suspect, who is known to the family, as they went to drop off their nephew who was visiting them,” colonel Adele said.

On their return, the parents found the victim sitting with the suspect drinking tea. It is alleged that the little girl then told her mother what happened. The child was taken to the clinic where the rape was confirmed. The police were alerted, and the suspect was arrested at his residence on 13 September.

The suspect will remain in custody until his second court appearance on 29 September.

The North West provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Sello Kwena, applauded the Brits Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for the arrests. He said that the police will not hesitate to make sure that those who perpetrate violence against women and children are brought to book to face the full might of the law.
