Hartbeespoort – The Police are investigating three cases in which farmworkers were brutally attacked on Monday 14 September.

The first incident happened at around 21:05 on a smallholding in the Skeerpoort area. A husband and wife were sleeping when they heard a window break and a person shouting that they should come outside. The husband went to investigate when he heard a second window break and the next moment bullets started flying. The man was shot several times. Upon hearing the shots, the owner of the farm immediately summoned for help and the attackers fled the scene.

Police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh confirmed that a case of attempted murder is being investigated.

A few hours after the first incident at around 23:00, a woman and her son were asleep when they heard someone knocking on the door. The person was looking for someone unknown to them.

According to colonel Adele the three men, one armed with a firearm and one with a knife, tried to break down the door. The woman was assaulted before the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and her cellphone.

Shortly after the second attack at 23:05, a 30-year-old man living on the same farm woke up after hearing someone on his roof. The next moment he saw a hand pointing a gun at him through an opening in the roof. The armed assailant demanded that the man open the door to give access to the other attackers. The victim was assaulted, and the attackers fled the scene with cash, a cellphone and clothes.

No arrest has been made at the time of going to print.
