Fire destroys Yebo Wholesalers in Zinniaville
Zinniaville/ Rustenburg – The Yebo Wholesalers building was badly damaged and most of the merchandise destroyed in a fire on Friday 19 November.
The fire broke out at around 12:30, allegedly while Zinniaville was experiencing water shortages. As the flames engulfed the shop, owners and employees of nearby businesses joined hands with community members in an effort to put out the fire.
Firefighters from Rustenburg Local Municipality and Royal Bafokeng Nation arrived at the scene and although the blaze was eventually extinguished, the damage was done. An employee from a nearby shop told the Platinum Weekly that the Rustenburg Firefighters only arrived after those from the Royal Bafokeng Nation.
Municipal spokesperson Thapelo Matebesi said that it is a common occurrence for personnel from the Royal Bafokeng Nation to assist during emergency situations. “The idea is to maximise personnel so that the emergency can be effectively dealt with. I will have to verify reports that there was no water,” Matebesi said.
Luckily nobody was injured by the fire and at this stage the cause of the fire is unknown.
Rustenburg police spokesperson sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi said that a case has not yet been opened regarding the incident.
