BAKUBUNG RESTRUCTURING: 429 JOBS AFFECTED
399 voluntary departures and 30 compulsory retrenchments confirmed
Platinum Weekly newspaper | Ledig, Rustenburg – Wesizwe Platinum has confirmed that 429 positions were affected by operational restructuring at Bakubung Platinum Mine in Ledig, near Rustenburg, marking a difficult chapter for employees and their families.
In an official announcement dated 1 October 2026, the company reported that 399 employees had elected and been approved to take voluntary separation packages, while 30 employees faced compulsory retrenchment.
The Section 189A consultation and facilitation process, conducted under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), officially concluded on 31 August 2026. Wesizwe thanked the consulting parties and the CCMA for their engagement throughout the process.
The general termination date for the affected workforce was 31 August 2026. However, departures of clinic and training centre staff were temporarily delayed to maintain continuity of these services. Their employment will end once ongoing tender processes to appoint qualified and accredited external service providers have concluded. These providers will take over the respective staff functions.
According to Wesizwe, all statutory and agreed severance package payments for affected employees were completed on 30 September 2026.
