Rustenburg/ Marikana – On Tuesday, 10 October, detectives from Marikana were informed of a 10-year old girl who had gone missing.

The Marikana Detectives immediately began with an intensive investigation into the matter. The child’s mother received a phone call from the kidnapper. The man demanded a ransom to the amount of R3 000.00.

On Thursday, 12 October, it was arranged with the suspect to collect the ransom money in Johannesburg at the Soweto taxi rank. The suspect was arrested by the detectives and the child was returned to her mother. 

The case docket was handed over to Family violence, Child abuse and Sexual offences (FCS) Rustenburg unit. A case of rape is also being investigated. 

A 28-year old male has appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court and investigations continue.
