Rustenburg – In an extraordinary display of martial arts excellence, the Tokon Shotokan Karate Academy/Club (A/C) recently had the esteemed privilege of training under the guidance of sensei Laurent and sensei Nicholas Bellegarde. These world-renowned karate masters, both world champions and decorated medallists within the World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF), imparted their vast knowledge and expertise to our local athletes on Saturday 24 February 2024.

The sensei’s visited Rustenburg to prepare our athletes for the upcoming challenges at the WUKF World Championships. These prestigious events will see our local talents competing first in Port Elizabeth and then in Mexico later in the year.

With an impressive number of 70 students set to represent Rustenburg at the global stage, the Tokon Shotokan Karate A/C stands as the largest group from our community to enter the championships. This initiative is spearheaded by kancho Albert Venter, the founder of Tokon Shotokan Karate and TSKKIA All Styles, as well as a recognised style head within the WUKF. Kancho Albert’s dedication to the art and his students was evident as he organised this invaluable training day, aiming to bolster their skills in both kata and kumite.

Expressing his satisfaction with the outcomes of the session, kancho Albert commended the hard work and dedication of our athletes, noting a significant improvement in the overall standard of performance. “Rustenburg’s Tokon Shotokan Karate members have been training with exceptional vigour, and it’s clear that their efforts are paying off. Our community has every reason to be proud of these outstanding athletes,” he stated.

As the Tokon Shotokan Karate A/C and its athletes gear up for their international competitions, the excitement within the Rustenburg martial arts community is palpable.
