Violent protest – N4 closed
Majakaneng/ Mooinooi – The N4 near Majakaneng (near Mooinooi and Brits) was closed from Sunday, 13 August, due to violent protests. At the time of going to press, the N4 highway is still closed off (16 August 2017).
The protests came about as a call to action to the Police regarding an incident in which a 24-year old man was allegedly shot and injured by a local farmer on Wednesday, 2 August 2017, after he and two other men were allegedly found stealing oranges from his farm.
The 24-year old man was never seen since that day, and the incident was reported to the Police two days later.
The Police are requesting members of the community in and around Majakaneng as well as Mooinooi to assist with any information that may shed light on this missing person enquiry and attempted murder case registered at the Mooinooi police station.
“The Police are working hard to investigate and get to the bottom of the matter. However, it is clear now that criminals have started to damage properties and targeting passing motorists whose vehicles are pelted with stones. The community is warned to refrain from criminal acts as that will not be tolerated and that drastic action will be taken against anyone who commits a crime,” Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, said.
