Rustenburg – The new grade eight learners or ‘Bonsais’ of Hoërskool Rustenburg started the first chapter of their high school career on Monday 13 January.

The excited youngsters took part in various activities where they had the opportunity to meet their new classmates and acquaint themselves with their new school.

The ‘amazing race’ activity was the highlight of the day as the race took them all over the school campus.

Grade eight committee chairperson Rialet Visser shared some words of wisdom with the newbies.
“I remember how it felt on my first day, sitting on the bottle green pavilion shouting Die groen bom, hy kom, hy kom. I looked around at the people sitting next to me and I just knew, this is the place where I belong,” she said.

“Here at RHS we are more than just a school, we are a family. My wish for you is that you will find your place here, that you will be involved and make friends that will make you feel like family,” she added.

“However, the only way you will be able to achieve this is if you grab every opportunity that the school has to give and do it wholeheartedly. That is how you become part of the family. The best thing I have learned from high school so far is that you should always stay true to yourself,” Visser concluded.

Rialet Visser, a grade 12 learner at RHS gave a bit of advice to the new grade eights.
