Rustenburg – A 60-year old man will spend the next five years behind bars after he was found guilty of defrauding the Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) on eight accounts. 

On Monday 2 September, the Rustenburg Regional Court sentenced Elias Selokoane to ten years behind bars after convicting him of making payments worth R420 000 into various accounts while capturing it as ‘acting allowance.’  

He will serve an effective five years behind bars after half of the sentence was suspended. Hawks spokesperson captain Tlangelani Rikhotso said:

“The accused is said to have colluded with other officials. The matter was investigated, and the two suspects began appearing in court from August 2018.”  

She added that the man’s co-accused is scheduled to appear before the Rustenburg Regional court on Wednesday 11 September for trial.
