Rustenburg – One mine worker lost his life and another was injured on Tuesday 6 August at Impala Rustenburg number 1 shaft.

Implats spokesperson Johan Theron confirmed the death of Nelson Thipe. He cited an accident in which two underground locomotives collided as the reason for the fatality.

Johan said the collision occurred as one of the locomotives was on the way to collect a load of ore.

“The other locomotive, which was going in the opposite direction, failed to stop.” he said.  An investigation is underway.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
