Brits – Jan Moche, Solomon Mokwena and Donald Lebeya will spend at least 25 years behind bars after they were handed life sentences by the Pretoria High Court on Thursday 25 July for murder and hijacking. 

The trio, aged between 34 and 36 years, are behind bars after the state’s overwhelming evidence linked them to the 2014 murder of Mongezi Nzuzo. 

The convicted killers were sentenced to 20 years for car hijacking, five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for possession of ammunition. All the sentences will run concurrently.

Th police began an invistigation after community members reported the discovery of Mongezi’s lifeless body near Letlhabile Clinic, Brits.

“Investigations revealed that the victim’s cellphone was stolen and his Polo Vivo hijacked before he was fatally shot in the head,” North West police spokesperson lieutenant colonel Amanda Funani said. 

Donald, who was arrested on Friday 28 March 2014 at Atteridgeville while in possession of the Polo, led police to the other two suspects.

All three were linked to the crimes through evidence supplied by the person who had bought Mongezi’s cellphone.
