Rustenburg – The 42-year old James Tshepo Marobi, who was accused of raping a 15-year old girl, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday 2 July 2019 by the Tlhabane Magistrates’ Court.


According to police spokesperson captain Elsabé Augoustides, the teenager was on her way back from the clinic on 11 November 2015 when the suspect, who lives in her neighbourhood, grabbed her, and forced her into his house where he raped her. 

Someone knocked at the door and she managed to escape. “The girl was very frightened, to such an extent that she only told her mother of the incident the next day.”

The SAPS were alerted and arrested the suspect three days later. 


The case was remanded several times. The accused remained in custody until his sentencing. The investigating officer, sergeant Phenyo Monchusi, is congratulated for a job well done.

Sergeant Phenyo Monchusi played a vital role in securing the conviction.
