Rustenburg – On the cold Wednesday morning of 19 June, members of D-relief Rustenburg Police were summoned to the scene where an abandoned baby boy, born only hours earlier, was discovered.

A passer-by found the little bundle on the pavement behind ABSA in the central business district (CBD) of Rustenburg – and immediately reported it to the Rustenburg Police.

The police rushed to the scene post-haste, wrapped the new-born in a blanket and immediately commenced with the official investigation. According to police spokesperson captain Elsabé Augoustides, the infant was hurried to Job Shimankana Tabane Provincial Hospital and fortunately declared fit and healthy.

Thank you constable Agnes Pule and constable Omphile Kgama for your swift reaction. Major general Arthur Adams said: “I am extremely proud and thankful to all the members involved. The vigilance of the community and the prompt response of the police surely saved the life of this infant.”
