Teaching kids’ healthy choices
Rustenburg – When Lindiwe Mokotjo heard the plight of Boikagong Secondary School, for school shoes, she decided to take action and help raise funds and awareness to assist their learners.
While spearheading the wonderful initiative, Lindiwe became aware of the various challenges that these students face on a daily basis.
After reading the article about Lindiwe’s journey in the Platinum Weekly issue of 24 May, Geoff Phihlela assisted in a way that is closest to his heart.
To commemorate Youth Day, an event was organised by Geoff on Monday 17 June to educate the matriculants and teachers of Boikagong Secondary School to the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
A fitness session was arranged where youngsters took part in just-move, just-box, step and Brazilian booty blast as well as indoor cycling at Planet Fitness in Lifestyle Square – who supported this initiative.
During the event, Neo Dikutle was one of the guest speakers who shared his story of how he changed his life by changing his habits. Puleng Moremi of MM Dieticians spoke to the learners about the importance of maintaining a balanced diet.
In an interview Geoff said: “The aim is to teach the youth how to live a healthy life from a young age.
We would like to see more schools embracing fitness while they maintain and promote an active lifestyle.”
Lindiwe is still in the process of bettering the lives of these students by supplying them with essential items such as school shoes.
