Rustenburg – Quick thinking and decisive action by Nico Jacobs saved him and his family from any harm when a fire destroyed their home on the evening of Tuesday 4 June.

Number 14 in 6th Avenue went up in flames at around 20:30.

Nico was visibly still shaken as he explained his immediate reaction after realising that the house was on fire.

“I went to the back to close the windows and the doors and when I got back, the curtains were already in flames,” Nico said, in an interview with Platinum Weekly.

Realising the danger, Nico quickly alerted the rest of his family.

“We all went outside and contacted the Rustenburg Fire department. They managed to put out the fire,” he said.

Despite the setback, Nico is grateful that nobody got hurt during the fire which also gutted the family’s two cars.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The fire badly damaged the house.
