Rustenburg – Art and literature enthusiasts gathered at Bushwillows Bed & Breakfast on 17 May to celebrate the 85th birthday of the internationally acclaimed artist Bill McGill. As per tradition, Bill exhibited his beautiful works of art at the event.

Art connoisseurs describe McGill’s annual exhibition as Rustenburg’s art event of the year and once again this talented artist did not disappoint!

Bill’s love for nature and animals is reflected in his wildlife paintings and can be found in homes and corporate buildings throughout South Africa, in the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, France, America and Canada. Bill also supplies some of the leading galleries in South Africa with his work.

What makes Bill’s work unique, is his seemingly effortless skill to depict several themes while maintaining the same flawless style.

In an interview with Platinum Weekly Bill said: “Each of my paintings has a story behind it. I try to not only create art but preserve a part of history.”

Admirers of his work got the opportunity to purchase a Bill McGill original painting and a percentage of the funds raised, will be donated towards AfriForum’s project to restore the municipal flats in town.
Bill is not only a talented artist but has written and illustrated several books, that were on sale during the evening.

He finds inspiration in the Herman Charles Bosman stories, and his books contain stories and sketches about the people and old buildings of Groot Marico and Rustenburg.

He also documented his trips in the Pilanesberg with exquisite illustrations and stories.

We are honoured to have an artist of Bill McGill’s stature in our community, and wish him many happy returns, and many more productive years of art!
