Rustenburg – The Police in Rustenburg are widening their investigations into cases of sexual assault and rape and have requested victims of such heinous crimes to come forward with information that could help them in apprehending the perpetrators.

In one of the more recent sexual attacks, which occurred on Tuesday 5 March at around 19:00, a 48-year old woman was almost raped in Safarituine. She was walking down the road, when two attackers assaulted her, and tasered her before attempting to rape her.

Fortunately, her screams for help was heard by a passer-by, who came rushing to her aid.
The two attackers fled the scene.

One of the attackers, a 27-year old male, was arrested after attempting to sell the taser without knowing that his actions were being recorded on a CCTV camera. Special mention goes to the members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), whose efforts in identifying the man led to the arrest.

The police are still searching for the second suspect.

“We appeal to women who could have been assaulted in a similar way, by a man of medium built who has one distinct golden tooth, to come forward and report the case,” police spokesperson captain Elsabé Augoustides said.
