Rustenburg – After experiencing various bumps in the road to safety, Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor for ward 18 Martha Lerm has finally succeeded by having speed humps placed on the R510 in front of Hoërskool Grenswag.

This road proved to be a safety hazard for learners crossing the R510 as some drivers blatantly sped by. Platinum Weekly reported on 14 September 2018 that in one month two students were hit by vehicles on this busy crossing.

With no speed humps, stop signs or pedestrian crossings in front of the school, this stretch of road was a proverbial accident waiting to happen.

For years Martha fought for the safety of these learners and little by little improvements were made. There is now a pedestrian crossing, breaking strips and finally speed humps.

In an interview with Platinum Weekly Martha said: “Two years of begging and fighting, tooth and nail, has finally paid off.

It is such a relief that learners, having to cross the road, can now do it safely.”

The humps are forcing motorists to slow down.
