Rustenburg – The Police in the North West province arrested 652 suspects between 6 and 31 October in the clusters of Brits, Mahikeng, Klerksdorp and Rustenburg.


During the operation, 25 firearms were confiscated.


In general, the suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, dangerous weapons, murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), possession of suspected stolen property, aggravated robbery, obstructing or defeating the ends of justice and illicit mining.

According to police spokesperson colonel Adéle Myburgh, 208 of the arrested suspects were issued with fines for alcohol and road traffic related offences. 


In Rustenburg, one of the suspects was linked to a case of attempted murder committed in Wesselsbron, Free State in September 2018.


The North West provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Baile Motswenyane applauded the police for putting the perpetrators behind bars in an endeavour to create a safe and secure community.
