Rustenburg – On Wednesday 29 August 2018, 35-year old Sunnyboy Bodigelo and 38-year old Daniel Tabiso Molebtsio were sentenced before the Rustenburg Regional Court on charges of theft from a motor vehicle, common robbery and housebreaking.

The accused’s modus operandi was to target motorists at shopping centres in Kroondal and Rustenburg by using remote jammers to gain access to the vehicles and valuables inside.

They were arrested in 2015 but due to a lack of evidence, they were later released. In 2016, they were involved in an additional two cases of theft. Photos of the suspects were circulated and by means of fingerprint identification, they were linked to an additional five cases of theft.

Sunnyboy from Lethabong and Daniel from Sunrise Park, were arrested again on 21 November 2016.
Bail was successfully opposed by investigating officer detective constable Nono Ntsimane from the Rustenburg Detectives unit, and she made sure that the accused remained in custody until the trial commenced in August this year.

Sunnyboy was sentenced to three years imprisonment for robbery, theft from a motor vehicle and common robbery. He was also handed a further eight years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.

Daniel was sentenced to eight years for theft out of a motor vehicle and the use of a motor vehicle jammer, and an additional three years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.

In handing down sentence, the presiding judge said that their crimes harmed so many innocent people and that enough is enough! He thanked the investigating officer for the professional way in which the investigation was conducted.
