Rustenburg – A mouth-watering provincial boxing tournament featuring some of the country’s finest boxers was held at the Rustenburg Civic Centre on Friday 27 July.

The tournament featured eight different bouts in different weights breaking the long drought of the sport in the North West Province, and Rustenburg in particular.

The sound of leather hitting against flesh and the cheering reverberated throughout the Civic Centre as the lads displayed their macho skills to the audience of a spacked civic centre.

One electrifying moment was when Ayanda Nkosi and Crispin Moliati traded blows in the light weight division much to the delight of the spectators. The muscular Nkosi won the bout in the third round by sending Moliati crashing to the floor.

Mathews Padi, former boxer and now boxing coach hailed the tournament as a success story. He lamented the lack of sponsors from around Rustenburg.
