‘NUISANCE HOUSES’
FACE DEMOLITION

Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) has given a 14-day notice to three home owners to avail themselves or face charges and subsequent demolition of their ‘nuisance houses’.

The ultimatum contained in a statement signed by the municipal manager Nqobile Sithole, dated 18 July, was issued in terms of the national building regulations and building standards act 103 of 1977.

The houses were burnt to the ground following community protests during February this year amid allegations that they were used for illegal activities such as prostitution, drug dealings and human trafficking.

Twelve houses were burnt by the protesting and angry community members in Rustenburg. Three properties of which the addresses were mentioned in the notice are: 77 Kruger Street, 19 A Leyds Street, both in Rustenburg East and 147 Klopper street.

Neighbours who spoke to Platinum Weekly opted to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal. They however expressed contentment that the houses will be eventually demolished for the sake of a healthy environment.
