Rustenburg – The DA and several Rustenburg community members got together on Saturday 3 March to clear away bushes and tidy up an unattended veld. Young and old supported this initiative.

More than 20 people volunteered for the clean-up campaign on the corner of Ridder and Tuin street in East End.

This specific area has been identified as a potential crime risk area as criminals can easily hide in the overgrown bushes. Through hard work and a camaraderie, they were able to fill two loads of an 18-wheeler truck and two loads of a tipper truck and clear the area.

Theunis Peens told the Platinum Weekly newspaper that the work and camaraderie of working towards a shared goal was a great experience: “It’s great to be able to join other people who share our passion and want to help clean our once beautiful town. I would like to take this opportunity to thank not only the volunteers but also the companies such as Coastal Tool Hire and the Rustenburg Local Municipality, who showed their support by sponsoring all the necessary equipment along with port-a-potties for the day.

The next clean-up campaign will be held on Saturday 7 April on the corner of Bosch and Molen and then on Saturday 5 May at the Donkerhoek graveyard in Geelhoutpark.

Anyone interested in joining the clean-up can contact Martha Lerm on 079-110 2087 or Theunis Peens on 084-645 6607.
