Rustenburg – Angels for the Aged is a newly established community project comprising of a few local residents in Rustenburg who have taken it upon themselves to assist the elderly in the municipal old age home.

With the dawn of Christmas on our doorstep, the group has decided to uplift the spirits of these valued oldies with an early Christmas meal and a few special treats. This special day was held on Saturday, 9 December.

Mohamed Abba of ABBA Emporium Wool Centre joined this venture to assist with the Christmas get-together.

“He who does not thank man, does not thank God.” This is a verse from all religious scripts.

“I take this opportunity to thank each and every Angel who assisted in this group effort, who worked tirelessly and put their heart and soul into making this such a wonderful heart-warming event,” says Mohamed.

The day kicked off with a prayer from Kobus Combrink accompanied by Mohamed and Nazneen Abba of Abba Emporium.

A mouth-watering meal of three salads, roast beef and chicken and a variety of fruits and desserts was on offer for the old folks. A serving of a specially baked cake delighted the elderly.

DJ Sarel van der Merwe had feet tapping and got these special folk up on their feet dancing and there were prizes to be won for the best dancers!

The old girls were also treated by hairdressers: Melana van der Merwe and Susan van Wyk making the aged feel refreshed and pretty as well as the men, all dapper with new hair styles. Husna and Suleiman Abba, the children of Mohamed and Nazneen, presented hampers to the old folk. This evoked many smiles and hugs all round, making friends and togetherness was the highlight of the day. This day for the aged was arranged on behalf of Rabia Abba.

A huge heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, namely: Zelda Vermeulen, Carol van Rensburg, Yolanda Maritz, Hannah Marincowitz, Mari-Landa van Niekerk, Cindy, Andre Vermeulen, Sarel van der Merwe, Melana van der Merwe, Susan van Wyk, Suleiman Abba, Husna Abba… As well as the ladies from the old age home who assisted: Tannie Dotti and Oom Johan, and her group of volunteers, Tannie Lorraine, Tannie Marie, Tannie Yvonne and Tannie Rina.
