FLAMES OF FURY
Rustenburg – Two nights of absolute terror is what the community of the East End in Rustenburg experienced on the nights of Tuesday, 7 November and Wednesday, 8 November.
Groups of people took the law into their own hands by petrol bombing three different houses, houses occupied by foreign nationals. These groups believe that it is these foreigners who were responsible for the disappearance of Gomolemo Habara. They vowed to keep up the violence until Gomolemo was safely returned to her family.
On Thursday, 9 November, the 14-year old Gomolemo Karabo Haraba of Rustenburg’s Technical High School was found and returned to her family. At the time of going to print, no additional details were available.
In all the chaos, the Police and the various community policing forums banded together to safeguard the community. Community policing forum members were at the municipal flats for the aged to see to it that the elderly people were indeed safe from smoke inhalation and out of danger.
Wednesday night, 7 November, two of the houses which were burnt the previous night where set alight again. The fires were reported and Rustenburg’s Fire Brigade came to the scene. Upon the arrival of the Fire Brigade, an angry mob of residents threatened to set the Fire Brigades vehicles alight, leaving them with their hands tied and unable to put out the flames. One person was arrested for the possession of a petrol bomb.
