Our Ward Matters Cleans, Cares, and Connects
Rustenburg – From bush cutting to rubbish removal, Our Ward Matters (OWM) continues to prove that teamwork transforms communities. Led by André van Dyk and Cllr Tanya Rothman, and supported by the EPWP team, OWM keeps bringing visible improvement to Wards 16 and 17. Week after week, the Our Ward Matters team makes all the difference!
7 October – Community Clean-Up
The OWM team launched their October efforts along Helen Joseph Drive, moving toward Kgaswane, where they cleared overgrown grass and bushes for improved visibility at intersections. From there, they worked down Waterberg Road to Cuckoo Avenue, cutting grass, clearing vegetation, and removing rubbish. The team also tidied areas around Waterfall Mall, Builders, and KFC, leaving the surroundings neat and inviting.
8 October – Taking Hands with RLM Waste Department
The following day, the OWM team tackled a large section from President Mbeki Drive toward the Raasblaar triangle, through Kruger Bridge and Kruger Street, continuing into Mispel and back toward Helen Joseph Drive. A skip — arranged by Cllr Tanya Rothman — was filled and collected by the RLM Waste Department, marking another strong partnership.
8 October – Visit to Geelhout Gardens “Voëltjie Park”
Concerns about safety near Voëltjie Park led Our Ward Matters to visit the site at Manuka and Kremetart Streets. The team found a beautiful, well-managed, and family-friendly area where residents can relax and enjoy nature. Owner Grant and his staff go beyond their boundary, maintaining surrounding areas to keep the neighbourhood attractive. OWM pledged to support these efforts.
9 October – Geelhoutpark Clean-Up
On 10 October, Our Ward Matters turned its focus to Kremetart Street, tackling illegal dumping, overgrown reeds, and long grass. The RLM Waste Department collected refuse while OWM volunteers continued cutting vegetation near Geelhout Gardens. Cllr Tanya Rothman confirmed that the EPWP team will return once Law Enforcement finalises the clearance process for squatters’ belongings. Directors Ilse du Preez, Ronel Peyper, and André van Dyk, joined by Cllrs Jean Keyser and Ilse Edwards, activist Michael Rothman, and volunteers, demonstrated what collaboration can achieve.
12 October – Teamwork and Persistence Pay Off
Law Enforcement joined the RLM Waste Department at Geelhout Gardens to clear rubbish, furniture, and debris left behind by squatters.
14 October – Giving Back with Our Ward Cares
The Our Ward Cares initiative closed the week with a heartfelt donation of clothing and homeware to Emmanuel Sorg NPC, offering comfort and support to local families in need.
